Reflexology is a therapy that treats the feet in order to balance the
whole body. In reflexology the feet and hands are like mini-maps of
the body, so any body system can be accessed and stimulated by
massaging the corresponding area of the foot. Reflexology works on the
principle that the whole body, from head to toe, is connected. The aim
is to stimulate the body’s own healing processes in order to keep it
in a healthy balance.
It is recommended that you have a course of four reflexology
treatments over a one month period. Thereafter one treatment a month
is recommended to maintain a healthy balance.
Benefits:
It
relieves stress and tension and has a deeply relaxing effect: It is
estimated that 75% of all disease is stress related.
It activates the body’s self-healing ability.
It improves waste removal and elimination from the body.
It helps release trapped nervous energy and improves your nervous
system efficiency. Approximately 7000 nerves are stimulated by
reflexology massage.
In order to function, the body needs energy in the form of oxygen and
nutrients which are circulated in the blood circulation. Reflexology
improves circulation which in turn improves the circulation of oxygen
and nutrients throughout the body.
Reflexology instils a feeling of wellbeing and contentment.
Suggested aftercare
Increase the amount of water you drink every day – aim for 8 glasses.
Take regular exercise – walking 30 minutes 4-5 times a week.
Weather permitting walk with bare feet outdoors particularly on grass,
sand or sea/lake shore as this is a mini reflexology treatment in
itself!
Once a week soak your feet in warm water with a little salt or grated
ginger
added. After soaking your feet use a pumice stone to rub away any
hardened skin on your feet or toes. It is important to keep the skin
surface as soft and flexible as possible.
Try to cut down on your caffeine intake. Try some herbal teas instead.
Who should not have a reflexology treatment?
Pretty
much anyone can have a reflexology treatment as it is a very safe.
However there are conditions which should not be treated such as blood
clotting problems, anyone with severe undiagnosed pain, a diabetic
with poor blood circulation or having difficulty controlling their
blood sugar, or during the first trimester of pregnancy. If you have
any condition you may be concerned about, please discuss it with your
therapist prior to treatment.
